How do I insert and remove my menstrual cup?Updated 9 months ago
HOW TO CLEAN YOUR CUP
Before using your menstrual cup for the first time, you’ll want to sterilize it. Place the cup in a pot of boiling water for 10 minutes. Allow it to cool completely before use.
Our cup is made from 100% medical-grade silicone, so it’s designed to withstand boiling temperatures. Just be sure the cup avoids contact with the pot, so the silicone does not burn.
When you remove the cup between uses, you can rinse it with warm water and soap. Always use a mild or unscented soap before reinserting or storing your cup.
HOW TO INSERT YOUR CUP
- Wash your hands and cup in warm water.
- Check the holes at the top of your cup to ensure they are clean and unclogged.
- Fold your cup to make it easier to insert. We recommend a C-fold or push-down fold (instructions below), but you can experiment to find what works best for your body.
- While sitting or squatting, insert the cup by sliding it into your vagina rim-first, toward your tailbone. The stem of the cup should be even with your vaginal opening.
- Gently release the cup, allowing it to pop open and seal to your vaginal walls. Holding the base of the cup, rotate the cup 360° in either direction to create a seal.
- Wear your menstrual cup for up to 12 hours, emptying it at least 2-3 times per day.
WAYS TO FOLD YOUR CUP
- C-fold - Flatten the cup, and fold it in half so the rim forms a “C” shape.
- Push-down fold - Use your index finger to push the top rim of the cup inwards, toward the base. Remove your finger as you squeeze the edges together.
HOW TO REMOVE YOUR CUP
- Wash your hands with soap and water.
- While sitting or squatting, use your thumb and your index finger to break the seal at the top of your cup by pushing the rim of the cup in. This will break the seal, preventing suction before you pull.
- Gently pull the base of your cup to slide it out.
- Empty its contents into the sink or toilet.
- Clean your cup with mild or unscented soap before reinsertion, or store in the LOLA carrying case.
